Poppy Jayne Jones

“For me poetry is about supporting other people to be their authentic self and supporting myself to work through the challenges of maintaining an authentic self.
I tend to try and narrate my experience in a way that is both healing and hopeful.”

Poppy-Jayne Jones

Poppy is an exquisite songstress and performance poet. She has been crafting poetry from the early age of nine.

Poppy organised the Plymouth Poetry Festival 2024 alongside a team of three. She's facilitated workshops for the National Poetry Society, Pyre Events and a local Red Tent.

She's performed at Primadonna Festival, Theatre Royal, South Hams Literary Festival and many grassroots venues with a focus on encouraging others to write.

Poppy's work explores an unapologetic connection and honouring of the self, in collaboration with the natural world around her.

As a mother to a neurodivergent child, Poppy brings empathy and inclusivity to her work, running workshops that encourage participants to explore their creative voice.

"Between Reeds"

"Between Reeds bristles with vitality and inventiveness. Poppy-Jayne Jones' sheer delight in the natural world is enriched by a detailed understanding of both its processes and the poetic potential within

Rather than mere background, Nature is something to be immersed in totally to the very tips of the 'veined voracious tendrils of life'. Poppy-Jayne's words are charged with a heady mixture of startling natural images and assured, inventive word play. This collection bubbles with linguistic innovation. Her startling honesty imbues each poem with a refreshing vibrancy. Intensely personal, these poems also offer poignant insights into universal themes. She leads us a 'dazzling dance' on 'silver tinged feet' and we are intoxicated by the experience. A thoroughly impressive first collection by a fine, multi-talented poet."

Her poetry collection Between Reeds is the 7th of our publications.

In this, the first poetry collection from Poppy-Jayne Jones she shows us her wild self and takes us by the hand and leads us to the hidden places ‘Between Reeds’. In doing so we find ourselves in our own wild inner spaces. At once playful and probing, the lines skip and howl and sing you along, and it’s impossible not to follow. The connection to nature is utterly tangible and love in all its forms whistles through this book like something always there yet changeable as the weather.

"Poppy’s poems invite us to meet her wild self for the first time again and again and again, and in so doing, we find ourselves in our own wild inner spaces.

At once playful and probing, the lines skip and sing and howl you along, and it’s impossible not to follow.

The connection to nature is utterly tangible, whilst love in all its forms whistles through this book like something always there yet changeable as the weather

Fern...

“When I had my daughter Fern, there was a massive weight that come upon me. I think having a daughter and knowing that you have to show a woman that the world is fully accessible to them. Very often in poetry and many things, you're walking into a male-dominated space and you are saying, actually, I have a relevant thing to say. And learning to speak as a woman and realising that your voice is valuable. I think that's incredibly important to her and I.”

Poppy's interview with Megan Simson

“My mother slipped two discs in her spine when I was nine and I was a young carer and I had a lot of support from communal services while I was caring and something a lady said to me was: write poetry. It's just been a gift. It was a gift then and it is a gift now and I still have a tremendous passion for emotional work.”
